Lahey Hospital and Medical Center was initially established as Lahey Clinic in 1923. The founder, Frank Lahey, MD, wanted to create a facility that was able to perform all medical services for each patient at a single location. Dr. Lahey was a highly-regarded combat surgeon and with his vision and management, the clinic achieved a success that far outpaced other facilities in Massachusetts.
Growth Over Decades
Over the first 30 years of its existence, the hospital grew so quickly that it frequently was unable to find beds for all of its patients. It was not uncommon for the hospital to have to use space at neighboring hospitals in the Boston area. Eventually, the clinic expanded into a larger facility in 1980 in Burlington, Massachusetts, and an additional location opened in Peabody, Massachusetts in 1994. More than 3,000 patients a day are now served by the medical facilities through their 317-bed hospital, emergency care and ambulatory care services.
Retention of Quality
The medical center is a non-profit group practice that combines the skills of a variety of medical professionals to produce the best outcome possible for each patient. The company currently has nearly 6,000 of these professionals as members of their staff. All patients have a team of experts available to them in order to ensure they have the most personalized, custom treatment plan currently available. The doctors, surgeons and others combine their knowledge and skills to create a comprehensive care package that improves patient outcomes.
Increasing Its Abilities
Lahey health is always seeking new opportunities for advancement and improvement. This includes the potential for merging with other notable medical facilities in the state to increase what is available for care to their patients. The goal is to make state-of-the-art, low-cost care more accessible to a larger percentage of the population.
The Lahey Hospital and Medical Center offers numerous residency and fellowship programs that help to entice the brightest minds from around the world to their facilities. This is just a small part of what makes the center so innovative and beneficial to their patients. To learn more about the advancements currently taking place, read about Lahey Hospital today.
